USH 18/151 (Town Hall Road to Fitchrona Road)
Hwy 18/151, a WisDOT project between Mount Horeb and Fitchburg, WI, involved resurfacing 48 lane miles and six interchanges along the USH 18-151 corridor in Dane County. The project used approximately 200,000 tons of asphalt, including 60,000 tons of stone matrix asphalt (SMA) surface.
US Highway 18/151, a
major roadway, had deteriorated and required maintenance to prolong its
lifespan. The project aimed to provide drivers with a safe and smooth road
surface. This involved concrete base patching, asphalt overlay, and extending
the right turn lane on the westbound off-ramp to County PB. Walbec's P+D and
Parisi teams collaborated on the project, with P+D responsible for
asphalt-related work and Parisi managing the mainline concrete pavement.
P+D's milling,
grading, and paving crews started working on the project in April 2023 and
completed it in late November. The project was divided into two large stages,
each covering six miles, and long-term lane closures were allowed during the
active stage.
The project received
the 2023 State Asphalt Award from the
Wisconsin Asphalt Pavement Association (WAPA) for its innovative practices in
completing a large highway project within a single construction season.
