The Payroll Specialist is crucial for ensuring accurate and timely processing of the company's payroll. This role involves managing various aspects of the weekly payroll process, from timecard management to compliance, making it essential for maintaining efficient payroll operations across the organization. The specialist engages in a blend of timecard reviewing, payroll report analyses, hours and rate edits, payroll processing, and compliance documentation throughout the week, with a specific focus on data analysis, employee inquiries, and report verification towards the end of the week to ensure smooth payroll closure.

The Position:

  • Timecard Management:
    • Review, export, and re-export timecards to ensure accuracy in payroll processing.
  • Payroll Processing:
    • Process weekly payroll for the company, including handling specific deductions and ensuring accuracy across various payment structures.
  • Data Analysis and Rate Edits:
    • Generate hours and rate edits to identify and make necessary adjustments to ensure compliance with applicable rates and benefits.
  • Compliance and Documentation:
    • Manage and process unemployment forms, levies, and garnishments.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Reporting:
    • Review insights logs and other payroll-related reports to monitor and report on operational metrics.
    • Review and verify the accuracy of payroll registers and related reports to ensure correct data processing.
  • Employee Support:
    • Address and resolve payroll-related questions and issues from employees, providing clear and concise information to assist with their queries.

The Candidate:

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience in a related field
  • A "Can Do" attitude and willingness to learn new programs and skills
  • Excellent auditing and attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of computer software including general computer navigation skills
  • Accurate data entry and typing skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume environment and meet multiple weekly deadlines
  • Past union contract payroll experience beneficial
