Payne and Dolan proudly announces that its Waukesha asphalt plant (Control 20) has achieved ENERGY STAR® certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This certification demonstrates the facility’s superior energy performance and commitment to environmental stewardship.
The Waukesha plant joins an elite group of 40 asphalt plants nationwide that have earned this prestigious certification in the program’s inaugural year for the asphalt industry. This achievement positions the facility among the top 25% of energy-efficient asphalt production facilities in the country.
“This certification reflects our ongoing commitment to operational excellence and sustainability,” said Dan Szotkowski, Area Manager at Payne and Dolan. “By optimizing our energy usage, we’re not only reducing our environmental footprint but also improving efficiency and delivering better value to our customers and communities.”
To qualify for ENERGY STAR certification, the Waukesha plant underwent rigorous evaluation using the EPA’s Energy Performance Indicator (EPI) tool, which measures energy efficiency against similar facilities nationwide. The plant scored above the required 75 points threshold, confirming its place among the nation’s most energy-efficient asphalt production facilities.
The certification process involved detailed documentation of 12 months of energy consumption and production data, with verification to confirm energy performance metrics.
This achievement aligns with the asphalt industry’s broader commitment to environmental responsibility and energy conservation as outlined in The Road Forward, the National Asphalt Pavement Association’s initiative to achieve net-zero carbon missions by 2050.
The ENERGY STAR certification benefits the environment, customers, and taxpayers through more efficient use of resources and reduced operational costs.
“We’re proud to be at the forefront of energy efficiency in asphalt production,” added Kenton Lindquist, Asphalt Plant Manager for Payne + Dolan. “This recognition validates our team’s dedication to continuous improvement and sustainable operations.”
Payne and Dolan will continue to leverage the insights gained through the ENERGY STAR certification process to enhance energy efficiency across all its operations.
