A Full-Service General Contracting & Site Development Project for the Oshkosh Area School District
Walbec’s Northeast Asphalt (NEA) transformed the former Merrill Middle School property into a state-of-the-art athletic track and field complex. This large-scale educational project supports the growing needs of the Oshkosh Area School District (OASD) by providing upgraded recreational and competitive facilities that enhance student wellness, school pride, and community use.
The newly developed green space is open to the public and serves a rapidly growing district. Strategic soil reuse and sustainable construction practices reduced truck traffic and minimized environmental impact—demonstrating Walbec’s commitment to innovative, responsible project delivery.
Following demolition of the original school building, the site was completely reimagined through full-service general contracting, construction management, and integrated self-performing capabilities to create a high-performance outdoor athletic facility designed to serve students and the surrounding community for decades.

INNOVATIVE METHODS & TECHNOLOGY
- To maximize quality and efficiency, crews utilized 3D machine control technology for grading and excavation. This technology reduced rework, improved precision elevations, and ensured the athletic surfaces met exact performance and drainage specifications.
- Challenging soil conditions required careful evaluation and value-engineered solutions. Through strategic soil analysis and reuse, the team reduced the need for imported materials, improved sustainability, and ensured every component of the facility was built on a stable foundation.
- Despite a late start, the team completed the project by the end of the season through proactive planning, schedule management, daily huddles, and strong subcontractor partnerships.
- By manufacturing and supplying our own aggregates, Walbec controlled material quality, streamlined logistics, and ensured consistent performance across the project.
