The Position:

Under the direction of the Director of Technical Services, the Technical Operations Manager (TOM) is responsible for safeguarding and efficiently directing all processes, people, and resources as assigned. Success in this role is determined by the ability to technically develop and mentor Quality Control Supervisors (QCS) and their teams.

The Technical Operations Manager will monitor all QC production testing via the QCS, ensuring compliance with all relevant specifications are met, engage in troubleshooting, and foster relationships with our Construction and Manufacturing Team while cultivating a positive work environment that facilitates the growth of the team.

Leadership:

  • Provide a clear path and vision, guiding decision-making and strategy development for QCS.
  • Responsible for the overall performance of the production testing and oversight by the QCS
  • Assess the team’s performance and accomplishments and implement improvements and innovations to increase efficiency and work quality.

Operational Management:

  • Support and guide the QCS, in a manner that maximizes efficiency and effectiveness of ethical testing and Customer Service.
  • Maintain communication with internal customers across the company.
  • Ensure QCS are prepared and ensure the requirements of their position are achieved.
  • Be a resource for the Area Managers and QCS when challenges arise at the project level.
  • Collaborate with the Area Managers on development opportunities for growth, improvements, efficiency and overall customer satisfaction.

Technical Expertise:

  • Provide QCS’s and their Teams with knowledge and tools to make precise, and accurate decisions.
  • Audits projects, laboratories, and evaluates team members to ensure the testing and reporting is executed effectively, efficiently, safely and in accordance with the specifications and company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Analyze, predict and communicate QC/QV variability and risk

The Candidate:

  • Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED).
  • A minimum of 3 years of quality control supervisor’s experience in roadway construction and material testing
  • Possesses current WisDOT HMA-TPC (WI), IDOT – HMA II (IL), and/or MDOT (MI) certification.
  • Willingness to undertake local and regional travel.
  • Level III qualification or higher in all aspects of Quality Control. (Agg, HMA, Density and MD)
