The Position:

  • Exploration / Property Evaluation
    • Collaborate with Land Resources Manager and Manufacturing Area Managers to develop short- and long-term strategic plan for aggregate resource utilization and exploration on a DOT, regional and global level.
    • Evaluate geology and reserves of potential property and site acquisitions including new greenfield sources and property opportunities.
    • Identify and contact landowners and other parties with interest in desired properties.
    • Negotiate and draft leases and purchase contracts with landowners.
    • Test and evaluate potential aggregate site properties to determine the quantity and quality of materials and the ability of the property to be operated as an aggregate source.
    • Prepare detailed reports and maps detailing estimated reserves and quality.
    • Identify and coordinate additional testing needed to further evaluate a potential site
    • Maintain good communication and relationship with landowners and contractors.
    • Prepare evaluation reports for potential property acquisitions
  • Aggregate Site Utilization
    • Advise Mine Planners on preparation and implementation of Mine Plans and Reclamation Plans that integrate the geology of deposit and help determine how deposits/resources can be operated in an efficient and cost-effective manner
    • Assist Site Managers with testing and exploration of existing aggregate sites already owned by the Walbec Group.
    • Work with Mine Planners to update remaining reserve estimates at active aggregate sites.
    • Coordinate all applicable updates to the Land Information Administrator
  • Permitting
    • Review local zoning ordinances to determine the required zoning and/or permits necessary for extraction.
    • Prepare zoning and permit applications for new conditional use permits.
    • Attend county board, town board and other governmental meetings.
  • Safety
    • Work with safety manager, manufacturing managers and field personnel to learn MSHA laws and regulations and promote safety within the organization.

The Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, geological engineering or comparable experience
  • Minimum of 2-4+ years of experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office applications to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • AUTO CADD, GIS or other computer design software experience preferred
  • Self-directed and motivated
  • Take initiative to identify and anticipate organizational needs and make recommendations for implementation
