The Position:

Under the direction of the Aggregate Manager, the Aggregate Site Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations associated with safety leadership, quarry management, aggregate production, scheduling and direct personnel management. Additionally, directs and coordinates the activities related to the mining and production of aggregate for internal asphalt plants and construction markets. This role requires leadership in safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Safety

  • Provide leadership and be a safety role model by displaying, promoting and enforcing safe work behaviors.
  • Actively participate in field related safety activities.
  • Work with Safety Managers, Aggregate Managers, Field Personnel and subcontractors to enforce MSHA laws and regulations and promote safety throughout the organization.

Quality Control

  • Work with Site Foreman, Production Lead and Quality Control Personnel in scheduling material testing and maintaining product specifications during production.
  • Consistently monitor test results to ensure materials meet specifications to avoid reprocessing of materials, penalties and project delays.
  • Assist in perpetual review, improvement and implementation of quality control procedures and processes.

Crushing/Washing Production

  • Work with all manufacturing departments to ensure materials meet specifications and delivery time frames.
  • Work with Foreman and Production Lead in the day-to-day operations of aggregate production including crushing and washing.
  • Prepare aggregate material production budgets and oversee the production (crushing and washing) throughout the year.
  • Review and monitor production costs regularly to stay as efficient as possible and identify ways to increase production efficiency and lower costs.
  • Continuously maintain, assist, and develop layouts and plans of processing plants, material flows, screen sizes, products and TPH for quarry sites and products.
  • Analyze equipment usage and needs, research and make recommendations on new equipment to be purchased.

Site Operations

  • Work with Land Resource Department to develop short- and long-term site mine plans detailing the most advisable and economical direction to mine a particular site, including the location of berms, overburden stockpiles, bench/layer utilization, plant sites, haul roads, and wash ponds.
  • Direct & support site Foreman on planning and implementation of the operations plans.
  • Coordinate completion of necessary site work including stripping and overburden management
  • Assist in maintaining site travel routes, signage, fencing, seeding, mulching, landscaping and other site needs. ·
  • Supervise and coordinate with Drilling & Blasting Supervisor all drilling and blasting needs for all managed sites and operations.
  • Monitor, develop, implement and maintain necessary quarry dewatering and pumping operations, including back-up solutions ready for emergency implementation.
  • Manage subcontractors when performing work on site(s).
  • Compile and maintain costs and costs history for all site activities, including stripping, restoration, dewatering, wash pond management, drilling and blasting.
  • Review & approve invoices and assure all costs are expensed to proper sites and/or jobs.
  • Conduct monthly cost reviews to ensure operational expenses remain within established budget.
  • Assist and be heavily involved in the management and wellbeing of approximately ten (10) field-based team members.
  • Lead recruiting efforts by identifying staffing needs, participating in candidate selection, and facilitating the onboarding process for new team members.
  • Develop and implement training programs to ensure new hires are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the team.
  • Always ensure professional appearance and aesthetics of site(s).

Inventory Management

  • Prepare monthly production inventory booking in accordance with material processing budgets and monthly inventory reconciliation to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain inventories for all managed aggregate sites including monthly and year-end physical inventory verifications. Coordinate inventory management with Accounting Department, Survey Personnel and Aggregate Manager.
  • Coordinate GPS schedule with Surveyor(s) to coincide with monthly and annual crushing & washing production, identify stockpiles to be measured.
  • Work with Aggregate Manager to prepare detailed site maps with stockpile locations and appropriate product identification. Other.
  • Coordinate all GPS services needed with the Survey Department, such as inventory, stripping, reserves, site layouts, etc.
  • Ensure continuous communication with Manufacturing Department Management (Aggregate Manager, VP, General Manager, and Area Manager) regarding aggregate-related issues and developments.
  • All other projects as assigned.

The Candidate:

  • Knowledge of all aspects of day-to-day operations for aggregate production including safety, budgeting, production, costs, repairs, maintenance, specifications, and quality control.
  • Must be safety-oriented, including detailed knowledge of the Mine Safety & Health Administration safety regulations, compliance and inspection process.
  • Willingness to provide or obtain aggregate material testing certifications as required.
  • Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office applications to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Prior experience in planning, scheduling, supervising and coordinating all aspects of crushing and washing production jobs.
  • Experience with all aspects of quarry management including permitting, compliance, earthmoving, crushing and washing production, shipping and subcontractor management.
  • Demonstrate ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills by prioritizing and managing multiple tasks and responsibilities concurrently.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally.

Preferred Skills

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in crushing and washing production and quarry management in the aggregate and/or mining industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mining or related field
  • HCSS HeavyJob, HeavyBid and EQ360.
  • AutoCAD® 3D or similar software experience and related computer design software experience.
  • Familiarity with Wisconsin and Illinois Department of Transportation aggregate material testing specifications and requirements.
  • Knowledge of crushing equipment repair and preventative maintenance.
  • Experience with AggFLOW.
