HCSS Product Manager- Construction Resources Management

Position summary:

The Product Manager role is to deliver solutions to support operational and business end users in the organization to help them maximize use of our HCSS tool. At the onset, this role will focus primarily developing Walbec's use of our Heavy Construction Specialist Systems software solutions (HCSS). This role is responsible for working with operational teams to identify & implement business solutions that utilize technology improve operational efficiencies, forecasting, troubleshooting, incident resolution, and problem remediation. This role is also responsible for defining, deploying, and maintaining software applications, which can include testing and analyzing software programs and related business processes. Additional responsibilities include research, design, and documentation of software specifications throughout the SLC, to focus on continuous improvement/

Role and Responsibilities

Support

  • Provide technical and functional support; analyze results, make recommendations for process improvement, and implement change
  • Liaise with functional process owners and system users, IT colleagues, and outside partners to assist in resolving problems with software, hardware, data communications, integrations, and outside services

Planning & Coordination

  • Develop project plans and associated communications documents
  • Estimate resources and participants needed to achieve project goals
  • Plan, schedule, and track project timelines, milestones, and results
  • Identify and manage project dependencies, critical path, project scope, and potential impacts

Functional & Technical Requirements Definition

  • Conduct discovery to refine user requests into functional requirements that define deliverables and anticipated benefits, with high-level estimates of cost and time
  • Create specifications that translate functional requirements into technical specifications, development guidelines, with detailed estimates of cost and time
  • Evaluate, document, and communicate constraints and/or opportunities in people, processes, and technologies as related to projects, enhancements, or upgrades
  • Liaise with operational managers, IT staff, and outside partners to collaborate in designing software, integrations, and overall solution platforms

Application & Database Development

  • Collaborate in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new applications and enhancements to existing applications
  • Create process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to system programmers
  • Review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing processes and systems and develop continuous improvement initiatives for enhancing or further leveraging these processes
  • Identify and establish scope and parameters of process analysis in order to define impact, outcome criteria, and measure-taking actions.
    • Research technologies deployed within the organization and emerging technologies that could be valuable, to maintain sufficient and current professional knowledge
      • Participate in the design, development, and delivery of solutions training programs
      • Develop deployment/upgrade checklists to guide systems backups, version releases, back-out processes, user communications, and support handover to mitigate risk and ensure stability
      • In collaboration with Business Process Owners, communicate solution changes, enhancements, and modifications to functional leadership, key stakeholders, and end users
        • Evaluate, plan, design, develop, and deploy testing techniques for new applications and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout their development/product lifecycles
        • Conduct application testing as needed, including system, unit, regression, load, and acceptance

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or 5 years progressive work experience, preferably within a construction company
  • Proven experience in overseeing the implementation of technical solutions
  • Experience with enterprise and desktop applications
  • Proven experience with troubleshooting principles, methodologies, and issue resolution techniques
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and creative problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both technical and non-technical environments
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

Additional Notes

  • Occasional local travel and rare overnight travel.
  • On-call availability on an as needed basis.

Occasional evening and weekend work to meet deadlines.
