Position summary:

Under the direction of the Area Manager, the Aggregate Manager will manage the day-to-day operations associated with quarry management and aggregate production. Main duties will include production oversight, budgeting, operational and process improvements, and employee leadership with a strong emphasis on ethics, safety and environmental compliance. This position works closely with other manufacturing departments, along with finance, environmental, safety, technical services and human resources.

Role and Responsibilities

Safety

  • Provide leadership and be a safety role model by promoting and enforcing safe work habits
  • Enforce MSHA laws and regulations and promote safety within the organization

Crushing/Washing Production

  • Ensure materials meet specifications and shipping/load out time frames
  • Work with foreman in the day-to-day operations of aggregate production
  • Prepare aggregate site budgets and oversee production
  • Monitor production costs regularly
  • Identify ways to increase production efficiency and lower costs
  • Schedule, approve, and monitor all routine, preventative, and emergency equipment repair projects and costs
  • Maintain, assist, and develop layouts and plans of crushing and wash plants, detailing plant layouts, material flows, screen sizes, products and TPH for quarry sites and products
  • Analyze equipment usage and needs, research and makes recommendations on new equipment
  • Work with asphalt plant managers to coordinate production needs and schedule

Site Operations

  • Work with land resource department to develop short and long term site operations plans detailing the most advisable and economical direction to mine a particular site
  • Direct & support site foreman on planning and implementation of the operations plans
  • Coordinate completion of necessary site work
  • Ensure professional appearance and aesthetics of site(s)
  • Supervise and coordinate with blasting supervisor for all drilling and blasting needs for all managed sites
  • Review and approve invoices, assign costs to proper sites or jobs
  • Manage subcontractors when performing work on site(s)
  • Prepare monthly production inventory booking in accordance with budget and monthly inventory reconciliation to ensure accuracy

Quality Control

  • Work with site foreman and quality control personnel in scheduling materials testing and maintaining product specifications
  • Assist in perpetual review, improvement and implementation of CQI procedures and processes

Other

  • Coordinate all GPS services needed with the Survey Department
  • Ensure product availability and specification along with continuous communication with manufacturing management about aggregate related issues and developments
  • Understand local zoning ordinances
  • Maintain good communication and positive relationship with government officials

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Three (3) or more years of experience in crushing and washing production and quarry management in the aggregate and or mining industry
  • Knowledge of all aspects of day-to-day operations for aggregate production
  • Must be safety oriented including detailed knowledge of the Mine Safety & Health Administration safety regulations, compliance and inspection process required
  • Experience with all aspects of quarry management
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Must be a team player

Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mining or related field preferred
  • HCSS Heavy Job and Heavy Bid preferred
