This award holds special meaning for our team because, typically, construction projects get all the glory. But we all know that without a manufacturing team behind us, not only producing an exceptional product, but doing so while being environmentally responsible, quality asphalt paving projects aren’t achievable.
When manufacturing asphalt, being environmental stewards means maximizing our opportunities to repurpose, reuse, and recycle materials. We’re also continuously looking for ways to reduce our energy intensity, which is where the ENERGY STAR® Challenge for Industry came into play.

- Industry-Leading Energy Efficiency: Payne + Dolan’s three asphalt plants—Control 6: Vienna, Control 10: Lagrange, and Control 20: Waukesha, are the only facilities in Wisconsin to achieve 2025 ENERGY STAR certification, performing among the top 25% nationwide for energy efficiency.
- People-Driven Sustainability: Sustainability efforts are rooted in its investment in people, including a dedicated sustainability team and a culture that prioritizes environmental stewardship
- Continuous Improvement and Community Impact: Our approach includes equipment upgrades, ongoing education, and frequent discussions about energy efficiency, resulting in reduced emissions and positive impacts for both team members and the surrounding community.
- Being a good neighbor is non-negotiable: Aesthetic improvements, including native plant landscaping, equipment and building restoration, enhanced signage, and consistent site upkeep.
Receiving the NAPA Environmental Leadership Award highlights our commitment to environmentally responsible operations. This recognition demonstrates that we view sustainability as a collective effort, where the most valuable insights come from those doing the work every day, and where we champion innovation across all levels of our organization.
